Merck conducts Continuous Medical Education (CME) Programme in collaboration with National Health Mission Government of Madhya Pradesh under the MoU on Hypothyroidism Education

  • First of its kind training programme on Hypothyroidism management in pregnant women conducted on November 17th & 18th supported by the Government of Madhya Pradesh under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Model with the Biopharma Business at Merck.
  • More than 55 Gynaecologists from 25 district hospitals and 3 Government medical colleges across state of Madhya Pradesh
  • Programme was based upon the National Guidelines for Screening of Hypothyroidism during Pregnancy

Bhopal, India, November 17, 2015 – The Biopharma business at Merck India has conducted Hypothyroidism detection and treatment Continuous Medical Education (CME) Programme in collaboration with National Health Mission – Government of Madhya Pradesh. This programme was established as per the MoU signed between Merck India – Biopharma division and National Health Mission – Government of Madhya Pradesh early this year under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Biopharma division of Merck, a leading science and technology company, is the world leader in the thyroid treatment, invested resources such as education material and trainers etc. Thus partnered in management of Hypothyroidism in pregnant women in state of Madhya Pradesh. Being a therapeutic segment leader, Merck thrives to improve access to Thyroid Medication, especially in peri-urban and rural areas.

The two day long CME programme organised on November 17th & 18th was attended by more than 55 Gynaecologists from 25 district hospitals and 3 government medical colleges from across state of Madhya Pradesh.

Picture1Speaking at the occasion, Mr Faiz Ahmed Kidwai Mission Director – National Health Mission said, “We are thankful to Merck for driving our focus on Hypothyroidism as it is a very important condition to be addressed especially in pregnant women. I look forward to keep track of the progress of this project in Madhya Pradesh and successful implementation of the Thyroid diagnosis and management efforts among pregnant women across all district hospitals in MP.”

Hypothyroidism is a chronic disease, very common among the pregnant women, but often ignored, and frequently disguised as some other indication such as infertility, dry skin, weight gain, depression etc. With initiatives such as this, we are sure about improving prevalence of hypothyroidism in India and its treatment.”

ASHA and ANM workers and supervisors will be trained for Pregnant Woman diagnosis and once they suspect high risk factors then they can refer them to Public Healthcare Centre / District Hospital.
